Tailings Liquor Treatment Reagent Logistics and Supply Study

Solution Provided | Defined suitable options for treatment reagent logistics, supply, and handling.

Disciplines | Mechanical, Process, Structural, and Electrical Engineering

Carnac undertook an options assessment for the logistics, supply, and handling of a tailings liquor treatment reagent for an Alumina Refinery.

 Carnac carried out the following:

  • Assessed and evaluated options for receiving and dosing the reagent into the plant;

  • Conducted a risk versus cost benefit trade-off study to determine the preferred go-forward options; and

  • Further developed engineering, cost estimates and risks of the go-forward options to an Order of Magnitude (OoM) level.

Carnac first determined the potential options for reagent form, receipt location, storage method, and handling method. Carnac then ranked each option based on various factors in terms of cost, viability, and certainty and recommended three (3) go-forward options to carry out further engineering for (in collaboration with the client’s Engineering and Procurement teams).

Through further engineering of the selected options, Carnac estimated the lifecycle costs for each option. Carnac’s final recommendation was a unique (but well understood) solution that is cost-effective and has a low technical and operational risk.
