Feasibility Study for Significant Reagent Recovery Opportunity

Solution Provided | Identified and developed an opportunity to significantly increase reagent recovery and alumina yield to a feasibility study level.

Disciplines | Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil and Structural Engineering

Carnac identified several high-value opportunities for an alumina refinery that would help the client gain a competitive advantage in the alumina market. One opportunity identified involved recovering reagent from a spent liquor stream. The opportunity was developed by Carnac from a concept to feasibility study level and provides the following benefits:

  • Increased reagent recovery leading to a higher plant alumina throughput and yield;

  • Reduced reagent consumption; and

  • Utilisation of existing plant infrastructure and equipment.

Carnac provided the following:

  • Class 2 execution estimate (±10% to ±15%);

  • Level 4 execution schedule;

  • Modelling, drawings, descriptions, and calculations for the Process, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural Engineering disciplines; and

  • Equipment vendor liaison.
