Chute Detailed Design

Solution Provided | Provided concept to detailed engineering design for screen oversize chutes.

Disciplines | Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical Engineering

Carnac undertook engineering design of screen oversize chutes from concept to detailed design stages. Carnac’s detailed engineering design sought to address the following issues related to the client’s existing chutes:

  • Constricted discharge aperture feeding the conveyor;

  • Internal catch points from manways and inspection openings;

  • High product flow rates (bridging);

  • Low product flow rates (product build-up on ledges followed by a large rock that creates a surge and bridges); and

  • Clay particle build-up on internal surfaces creating an adhesive layer for rocks to build-up on and choke the discharge aperture eventually causing bridging.

 Carnac carried out the following:

  • 3D modelling;

  • Cloud-to-mesh comparison;

  • Multi-spherical ore profiling;

  • Discrete element modelling to assess wall stresses, wear, and flow;

  • 2D drawings;

  • Detailed design; and

  • Belt impact and chute performance studies.
