Carnac was engaged to assess the process involved with removing the Disc Filter Leafs at an Alumina Refinery and develop concept designs that would
1. Increase the efficiency and rate to remove and replace;
2. Reduce the operator interaction and manual handling; and
3. Reduce the exposure of operator injury or incident during the leaf change-out operations.
A number of concepts and their variations were assessed or scored against each other based on weightings associated with capital, labour, safety, reliability and speed. Carnac formed a capital cost estimate for each of the options to aid in stakeholder review of the concept designs.
