Feed Chute Replacement

Solution Provided | Replacement design of Feed Chute

Discipline | Mechanical, Structural Engineering

A client engaged Carnac - Project Delivery Services (Carnac) to provide detailed engineering design to replace existing discharge chutes that were at the end of their life.

The project encompassed the following:

  • Conveyor skirting;

  • Fines Discharge Chute;

  • Dribble Chute; and

  • Grizzly Screen Exciter Access Platform.

The Carnac team provided professional design solutions in accordance with the client's process, operations and maintenance requirements.

The Carnac team recommended the following:

  • Angle the chute walls to 70°;

  • Extend the rear chute wall to ~180mm from the top of the belt;

  • Relieve the side wall to ~310mm from the top of the belt at the head end;

  • Remove wear billets along the head end 1/3rd of chute;

  • Install Keech skirts inboard of any sealing skirts; and

  • Install sealing skirts at 122mm edge distance in accordance with CEMA guidelines.

DEM Modelling was used to refine the chute design and optimise conveyor loading. The real-world results correlated strongly with the conceptual modelling. The client was provided with a lower maintenance chute that also reduced downstream skirt wear.
