Green House Gas Pre-Feasibility Study

Solution Provided | Conducted a concept level validation of five opportunities to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions in an alumina refinery through energy improvements. Of the opportunities reviewed 3 were progressed to a PFS level.

Disciplines | Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Design

Carnac – Project Delivery Services Pty Ltd (Carnac) provided engineering services to investigate opportunities to reduce GHG emission. Carnac’s assessment included the following:

  • Producing a pragmatic and affordable plan to transition towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050;

  • Developed 5 concept level solutions to reduce steam usage in the refinery and a subsequent reduction in coal required in the powerhouse boilers; and

  • Provided 3 standalone execution packages, with the possibility to save 25.2 ktpa coal and 45.8 ktpa carbon dioxide equivalent when all are executed.
