Heat Exchanger Trolley

Project Value | $350k

Solution Provided | Feasibility Study and Detailed Engineering Design

In the facility, within the purification area, there are four spiral heat exchangers currently in operation. These vessels are replaced on a routine basis for maintenance overhaul. The current equipment used for the replacement of these vessels is not ideal for the task, resulting in it being a time-consuming activity with several safety issues, as identified by the client. The time taken to complete the heat exchanger change-out is critical for the overall shutdown duration and so it must be kept to a minimum. The plant's future expansion will require two more spiral heaters to be installed, increasing the need for an upgrade or redesign of the equipment used to replace the heaters.

Carnac delivered a feasibility report that outlined an implementation plan for engineering/design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning; and provided full support for mechanical/package engineering and electrical instrumentation and control detailed design. As a consequence of the new system, electrical and control requirements were investigated for the bucket elevators used in this application.
