Mine Fuel Bay Engineering

Solution Provided | Conduct an engineering review into the installation of a new air compressor for a mine fuel bay area. The air compressor was to supply a grease pump, two transfer pumps, tyre fill and actuate the fuel bowser valves.

Discipline | Mechanical Engineering

Carnac – Project Delivery Services Pty Ltd (Carnac) provided engineering services to investigate whether an existing air compressor can supply the new grease pump and then investigate alternative air compressors. Carnac’s assessment included the following:

  • A review into existing P&IDs to verify equipment as designed, and whether it can run the new grease pump;

  • Produced a model to measure piping pressure losses and pipe velocities;

  • Defined compressor requirements to operate all equipment;

  • Produced a table of results for the air circuit supply and demands; and

  • Confirmed whether the new air compressor complies with all Australian Standards for installation in fuel areas.
